“Why, Grace O’Connor, fancy meeting you here,” Andrew said, his boots clicking on the marble foyer floor. “I was just about to go get some coffee. Join me?”

Grace dropped the magazine she’d been staring at, but not reading. Her gaze followed the line of his leg, up his torso, connecting with an amazing set of green eyes that vibrated with mischievousness. Her core clenched and resoundingly yelled, ‘Yes! Yes! More, please!’ while the rest of her wondered if going back for seconds was really a good idea. Too much of a good thing, and all that.

Andrew leaned down, getting even with her eyes. “How about we don’t over-analyze last night right now? No good thoughts come out of you before coffee, remember?” He reached out his hand to her.

She laughed and placed her hand in his, allowing him to pull her up. “You reading my mind again, Cowboy?”

“Just getting really good at decoding the lines on your forehead.” He ran a finger over the space between her eyebrows, smoothing the skin. “Two lines means you’re thinking really hard. Three lines means you’re overthinking.”

“I didn’t know I was so transparent.”

“You’re not, but I’ve been paying attention.”

Grace exhaled a tremulous laugh. She waffled between feelings of freedom and fright—again. Having someone fully see her was amazing, but vulnerability and openness had never been her strong suits. “Is ‘paying attention’ a less stalkerish way of saying ‘I’ve been watching you’?”

“And humor is your number one defense mechanism. So, coffee? Or should I continue detailing your quirks and traits?”

No. That was more than enough of that. “Coffee,” she said, nodding her head. Coffee was one of the few things that still made sense in her world.

When they stepped into the café around the corner, Andrew touched her arm and cocked his head toward the far corner. Joe sat alone in a booth, headphones in his ears, tapping out a beat with his pencil while studying the paper in front of him.

Grace bit her bottom lip and curled and uncurled her fingers. Clearly, even getting coffee was a dangerous experience now. “He’s going to wonder what we’re doing here together. Last night has to be our secret.”

Andrew laughed. “I don’t make it a habit to discuss my sex life with other people, but a warning, Joe might notice my post-coital glow.”

Grace groaned. “Be serious.”

“If I keep it quiet, you’ll have to keep your hands off all this.” He ran his hands down his chest. “And I’m not sure you’re up for the challenge.”

She rolled her eyes. “I’ll manage. You’re not completely irresistible.”

“Ouch. You wound me, O’Connor.”

“One beautiful woman at the signing table after the next concert breathlessly asking you to sign her t-shirt, or her cleavage, and you’ll forget all about me.”

“Doubtful.” He kissed her palm. “Not after what you did to me last night.”

Grace blushed a deep red. “Seriously. What’s our story?”

“That we were writing and now we’re taking a coffee break? Something far-fetched like that?”

Grace slapped him in the chest. “Fine. Be reasonable if you must.
